Edith Cavell was the daughter of a British Pastor. After working as teacher for many years she took up Nursing to serve the sick. While she was the head of the first Nursing College in Brussels, Belgium between 1907 – 15, World War 1 broke out and Belgium was invaded by Germany. During invasion, she, rescued, hid and escorted more than 200 lost soldiers to safety until she was arrested and finally executed.
Former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown was much inspiried by her and called her, 'The heroine who humbled me'
