A bleak Cornish clifftop strewn with the derelict remains of old tin mines.
It seems to magazine editor, Loveday Ross, an odd place for an art class, but then her artist friend, Lawrence Kemp, had been acting strangely recently.
As her camera clicks, taking pictures for the article she’s planning, a grim sight emerges from the receding tide far below.

Detective Inspector Sam Kitto doesn’t appreciate finding a journalist at the murder scene, and Loveday isn't happy being a suspect.

Believing that the remote Black Swan Inn, with it's idyllic waterside location, could provide a romantic feature for her Cornish magazine, editor Loveday Ross, accepts an invitation to go along and interview Marika Sweet, the woman who claims to be its owner.

Her policeman boyfriend, Detective Inspector Sam Kitto, warns her to leave the unsavoury brothers for the police to deal with. But that's not Loveday's way.
Then there's a murder ... and more people start getting hurt.
Could the Clemos' old sailing ship, the Arabella, provide the key to solving the mystery?

The body of wealthy Cornish boat-builder, Silas Venning, is found hanged in a remote wood. Gossip about how he met his demise is rife amongst the county's party set.
His widow, celebrated artist, Laura Anstey, is convinced it's murder and enlists the help of magazine editor, Loveday Ross, to help her prove it.
Then Loveday’s policeman boyfriend, Detective Inspector, Sam Kitto, confirms
foul play. The post mortem shows that someone with medical knowledge rendered Silas unconscious before he was strung up.
Suspicion falls on Laura's friend, the beautiful young doctor Meredith Deering.
Is it gossip? Or had she really been having an affair with Silas?
But when Loveday's best friend, Cassie Trevillick, gets attacked, the stakes get personal.
